CABCON Technologies has completed the building of its Fire Resistance Cable Testing Lab. CABCON is now in a position to conduct in-house testing of its PH30 Fire Resisant Cable for a 30 minute survival time at 840° in accordance with BS EN 50200, as well as our PH120 Fire Resistant Cable for a 120 minute survival time at 930° in accordance with BS EN 50200 and BS 8434-2 test method, this includes shock and water spray.

CABCONs Fire Resistant Cable Testing Lab is able to conduct the same tests under the same conditions as the fire resistant cable testing lab at SABS. CAB-TECH FIRE fire resistant cable fully complies with SANS 10139.

CABCON supplies the low smoke zero halogen fire cable clips that are essential to maintain the fire survival properties of the installation.

The PH30 meets the fire resistant standard when tested in accordance with the BS EN 50200 method; PH120 meets the fire resistant standard when tested in accordance with the BS EN 50200 & BS 8434-2 method. In attaining these standards, both cables meet the requirements as set out in SANS 10139.

CAB-TECH FIRE cable silicone is embedded with volcanic rock to ensure integrity during a fire, conventional silicone will fail.

At CABCON, the following standards are used in the manufacture of our cables:

  • SANS 1411-1 for copper conductors
  • SANS 1411-2 for PVC grades for insulation and sheathing
  • SANS 1411-3 for silicone compound
  • SANS 1411-4 for cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)
  • SANS 1411-5 for halogen free, flame retardant materials for insulation and sheathing
  • SANS 1411-6 for cable armouring (SWA)
  • SANS 1411-7 for polyethylene (PE) for insulation

All compounds used by CABCON in insulation, bedding and sheathing are Heavy Metal Free (HMF) (Lead Free) - ROHS compliant.

XLPE can NOT be manufactured in South Africa, this compound that is “deemed” to be locally obtained can only be produced in foreign countries.
